Herbicide Diversity of XtendFlex® Soybeans

With the approval of XtendFlex® soybeans, there is a renewed emphasis for flexibility in over-the-top herbicide applications while providing sound agronomics and yield potential. Built on the proven Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® Technology, XtendFlex soybeans have triple tolerance to glyphosate, dicamba and glufosinate.

All herbicide programs should be built with the thought of starting clean in mind. This can be accomplished with a tillage pass or a burndown pass in a no-till situation. The addition of a preemergence herbicide is critical in many scenarios for full-season success.

After starting clean with a strong preemergence program, midseason scouting may expose a need for postemergence spray applications. The addition of glufosinate tolerance offers a new flexibility for users to spray glufosinate (group 10), glyphosate (group 9) and dicamba (group 4) over the top of triple-stacked XtendFlex soybeans to help manage hard-to-kill and resistant weeds. Currently, some of the most difficult weeds to kill are Palmer amaranth, kochia, marestail, waterhemp, giant ragweed, lambsquarters and velvetleaf. Where glyphosate has not proven to be effective, an over-the-top application of dicamba or glufosinate as well as an in-season application of a strong residual such as Warrant® herbicide or Warrant® Ultra herbicide can help to provide improved control on these hard-to-kill weeds. NOT all herbicides may be tank-mixed with XtendiMax® herbicide with VaporGrip® Technology, a restricted use herbicide. Please refer to www.xtendimaxapplicationrequirements.com for a list of approved tank mixes. In order to effectively manage weeds correctly, proper identification is necessary. Effective herbicide management is a long-term strategy focused on minimizing continued herbicide resistance and giving your crops a competitive advantage over hard-to-kill weeds. With a new five-year registration for XtendiMax herbicide with VaporGrip Technology that must be used with VaporGrip® Xtra Agent or an equivalent Volatility Reduction Adjuvant (VRA), and now with the ability to use glufosinate with XtendFlex soybeans, keeping fields clean is a manageable task now more than ever. XtendFlex soybeans are built on high-yielding Roundup Ready 2 Xtend Technology, farmers will get additional tolerance to glufosinate for more flexibility and herbicide choices to manage their unique weed control challenges.
