Soybean Seed Treatments for 2023

Protect Your Seed Investment

Soybean seeds and seedlings are subjected to a variety of risks in the soil following planting. These risks primarily come in the form of pests that include insects, diseases, and nematodes which can decrease stand, plant health, and ultimately yield at the end of the season. Seed treatments are a useful management tool to combat those pests using a combination of fungicides, insecticides, and nematicides to help protect soybean plants and deliver yield in the fall. The Bayer 2023 downstream soybean seed treatment offerings include Acceleron® Seed Applied Solutions Basic (Fungicide), Acceleron® Seed Applied Solutions Standard (Fungicide + Insecticide), and ILEVO® seed treatment.

New for 2023

The Acceleron® Basic seed treatment offering is a fungicide only product combination that includes the fungicides prothioconazole, penflufen, and an increased rate of metalaxyl for 2023. The higher rate of metalaxyl provides increased control of Pythium and early season Phytophthora, while the prothioconazole and penflufen offer control for Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, and Phomopsis. The multiple mode of action (MOA) mix of active ingredients is important because the product package offers effective and broad protection for soybean plants.

The Acceleron® Standard seed treatment offering includes the same fungicide package as Acceleron® Basic with the addition of imidacloprid insecticide for control of early season soybean aphids, seed corn maggots, and bean leaf beetles. Imidacloprid is a neonicotinoid that affects the insect’s nervous system and protects soybean seedlings from feeding damage.

Personnel involved with the treating process should observe better product stability, flowability, and reduced treater buildup when processing Acceleron® Basic and Acceleron® Standard offerings.*

ILEVO® seed treatment uses the active ingredient fluopyram that can be applied at ½ rate for nematode protection, or at a full rate for both sudden death syndrome (SDS) and nematode protection. There are no in-season management options for SDS or nematodes which makes ILEVO® seed treatment a very useful tool to help protect soybean plants and yield potential at planting.
